Black Prince (1966 – 2013) Fred Olsen Cruises

built 1966. Operated from 1970 to 1983 during summertime as ferry Venus for Det Bergenske Dampskipsselskab and in winter in cruise service from Holland and the UK to the Canary Islands as Black Prince for Fred Olsen. In 1983 the ferry service was taken over by DFDS and in 1985 by Norway Line. In 1985 Fred Olsen purchased her and converted her to the full-time cruise ship Black Prince. She sailed in this role until 2009 when she was sold because it was too costly to upgrade her to comply with the new SOLAS-safety rules to SAVECA from Venezuela for coastal service and employment as a hotel ship. She was renamed Ola Esmeralda. Scrapped in the Dominican Republic in 2013.
