Doulos (1914 – present) Good Books for All

When in service the oldest seagoing passenger ship in the world. Doulos started life in 1914 as the Medina, a freighter. In 1948 she was sold to shipping line Genaviter and renamed Roma. She was completely rebuilt as a passenger ship, an emigrant carrier. She sailed in this role until  1953 when she was auctioned off to the only bidder present, the Costa Line. After a thorough refit she entered service as Franca C. Getting to old she was sold off by Costa and was acquired by the German charity Gute Bucher fur Alle (Good Books for All). In 2010 it became clear that it would be too costly to have her comply with the new SOLAS safety rules and she was sold to Eric Saw, chairman of Biz Naz Resources Int in Singapore. After a three year conversion and after having been dragged ashore in Bintan Island, Indonesia, she now serves as the luxury hotel Doulos Phos since June 2019.
