The history of the Malardrottningen starts in 1924 when she was built for Mr. Billings from New York. He named her Vanadis. At the time she was the world’s largest diesel-powered yacht. He later sold her to Woolworth-millionaire Frank W. Hutton who gave the vessel as a birthday present to his daughter Barbara for her 18th birthday. She sold her to the English fleet for one pound after many years of use. She sailed in Panamanian waters for a brief time after WWII and later as a training ship in Norway. In the fifties she sailed as Koert Adelaer as a ferry between Stockholm and Turku. Since 1982 after a thorough refit she serves as a floating hotel in Stockholm.
