During construction in 1990 one third of the ship was lost due to an onboard fire. Nevertheless she was completed and sailed form 1991 until 2013 as Monarch of the Seas for Royal Caribbean Int. In 2007 she was the first cruise ship under the command of a woman-captain, Karin Stahre-Janson from Sweden. In 2013 transferred to daughter company Pullmantur and renamed Monarch. Pullmantur was one of the first companies to get into financial difficulties because of the COVID-19 pandemic forcing them to sell her for scrap in Turkey 2020.
