MSC Euribia is part of the MSC Cruises’ Meraviglia-Plus class ships. She is the first ship in the fleet featuring hull art. Her hull shows a captivating artwork titled #SaveTheSea by renowned marine artist Alex Flämig depicting marine life. This work was chosen from many submissions after MSC had lauched a competition in October 2021 already to be able to choose the most spectacular hull art for their new ship, also symbolizing MSC Cruises’ commitment to the sea. The five finalists have their designs displayed on board the ship in a new gallery.

MSC Euribia introduces a sustainable future for cruising.
The MSC Euribia represents a significant step forward in the cruise industry’s journey towards a more sustainable future. By integrating cutting-edge technology with luxurious amenities and a commitment to environmental responsibility, she sets a new standard. The cruise division of MSC Group published data and learnings from the world’s net zero-emissions cruise, which was a 4-day sailing from St. Nazaire, France to Copenhagen, Denmark in June 2023. The MSC Euribia surpassed its forecast performance resulting in 43 tonnes less fuel used than planned.
A “digital twin” technology was used to benchmark the ship’s performance, but the MSC Euribia performed 11% better than her virtual twin, a computer ship model reproducing the optimum energy flow and utilisation on board.
With heating and hot water on board produced by capturing waste heat from her engines, the boilers on board were not required. In addition, optimal speed profiles, routing, trim and engine configuration, combined with optimisation of the hotel department’s energy consumption, including HVAC (heating, ventilation and airconditioning), galleys, and lighting, ensured that she never had to use more than two of her four engines during the voyage.
MSC Cruises has partnered with Gasum Oy a Finnish state-owned energy company operating in Scandinavia enabling them to access new and cleaner fuels needed to make a significant step forward to net zero cruising. Gasum provides the e-LNG (liquefied synthetic gas) for MSC Euribia, renewable fuel produced using hydrogen, created by hydrolysis with renewable energy and captured carbon. Meaning MSC Euribia is powered by a completely climate neutrally produced fuel.

After MSC Euribia‘s net zero emission cruise, Michele Francioni, Senior Vice President of Optimisation for the MSC Cruise Division stated: “We are extremely proud of this achievement, that proves net-zero cruising is possible today. Our engineers on board and our crew led by Captain Battinelli did a fantastic job optimising the ship’s operation. MSC Euribia truly has the most energy-efficient cruise ship design to-date. However, we need support from governments and international insitutions to enable production of renewable fuels on a much larger scale to make net-zero emission cruising possible in 2050″ .
