Cuise ship recycling came to a total halt in 2023. With some vessels continuing in lay-up, not one of them was sent to the scrapyards. Very remarkable indeed, as 2022 had been a record year with 18 cruise ships having been sent to the breakers, mainly in Turkey and India.

She is the world’s oldest cruise ship and it seemed she would be the first vessel broken up at Inchgreen Dry Dock, UK following several unsuccessful bids by scrappers, but this also didn’t happen. She has been in lay up in the port of Rotterdam for the last four years after plans to convert her to a floating hotel fell through. However, her owners insist they still have plans with her and she is not ups for sale…
